Mail Delivery Suspended Due to Storm
The Canton Post Office reports that mail carriers have discretion regarding delivering the mail. If conditions seem to dangerous (for example, due to icy roads) or too difficult (for example, due to snow piled in front of mailboxes), the mail carrier can return to the post office without delivering the mail. Apparently that happened on January 6 & 7. The mail is being stored at the post office until conditions allow the driver to deliver it safely. Unfortunately it's not possible to pick up your mail from the post office.
"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Did you know that this quote, known informally as the post office creed, was added to a USPS building by an architect, and is not officially the creed of the USPS? See this Wikipedia entry for more information.
